After
many years of planning and construction, stage one of the Oxley Vale Lifelong
Learning Centre was officially opened today by Member for Port Macquarie,
Leslie Williams.
“Today
we are celebrating the determination of the members of the Port Macquarie Arts
and Craft Centre and the Hastings Men’s Shed who joined forces to become the
Oxley Vale Lifelong Learning Centre with a vision of co-locating in this purpose-built
multi-million dollar development,” Mrs Williams said.
“In
2019, I was pleased to announce the then Liberal and Nations Government had committed
just over $3.4 million to construct this new facility and today the hard work
of these two community groups has become a reality.
“The Centre comprises of art studios for a range
of creative disciplines, wood and metal work spaces, amenities, meeting room
and kitchen,” Mrs Williams said.
“The new Men’s Shed includes an open plan workshop, metal room, paint rooms, office space, kitchen, meeting rooms and parking.
“Community-run
organisations like the men’s shed and art and craft groups have important
wellbeing and health benefits, primarily for our seniors and retired residents across
regional and rural areas.
“I know how hard the Oxley Vale Lifelong Learning Centre Committee members have worked over the years and its been an honour to work beside them throughout the journey to witness the creation of this amazing Centre that will serve the people of the Hastings for many decades to come,” Mrs Williams said.
